MTF: Using the MDS 2 form as a support for cybersecurity in hospital IT networks

Session Heutige, digital mögliche Versorgung

Given the various technical constraints to cybersecurity measures implemented in networked medical devices, the device design often has to balance safety and performance over cybersecurity. While demanding the implementation of technical cybersecurity measures in networked medical devices may be popular, medical professionals tend to favor availability and connectivity over lengthy and tricky authentication/authorization procedures. In order to clearly communicate the cybersecurity design choices for a given medical product, the MDS2 document (Manufacturer Disclosure Statement on Medical Device Security) helps customers understand their remaining responsibility for a device’s cybersecurity. The presentation highlights the practical use of certain selected information fields from such an MDS2 form.
