Personalized nutrition (PN) refers to nutritional recommendations that are adapted to individual nutritional needs and preferences and is therefore particularly suitable for optimizing the performance of elite athletes. It considers the physiological needs in certain sports as well as personal goals such as increasing cognitive performance, regeneration between competitions or recovery from injuries. The first step of PN is the analysis of biomarkers, medical history and personal nutritional preferences. The results are then put in a scientific context, from which personalized recommendations are derived. To further optimize these recommendations, biomarkers and performance are tracked over time and the individual progress is incorporated into new recommendations. Using examples from elite athletes, we will discuss how various individual needs can be converted into personalized recommendations and how suitable ingredients and concentrations of personalized supplements are calculated.
