MLF: Mining cell-free DNA biology for the detection of cancer and other pathologies

Session New insights in circulating nucleic acid diagnostics

Liquid biopsy and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in particular have been extensively studied for the detection and monitoring of cancer. Cancer is commonly detected in blood plasma using genetic or epigenetic alterations exhibited by cfDNA. Such approaches are facing limitations for the most challenging liquid biopsy applications (MRD tracking, early detection, brain cancer detection). Here I will present how harnessing the biological properties of cfDNA, and in particular its structure and other “fragmentomics” signatures, could enhance the sensitivity of liquid biopsy for the detection of cancer, and other pathologies.
