Bacterial or virus co-infections with SARS-CoV-2 have been reported in several studies, however, the knowledge on the pathopysiology of fungal coinfections among patients with COVID-19 is limited. We performed systematic studies on the lung mycobiome during the clinical course of severe SARS-CoV-2 infections by next generation sequencing (NGS) and suggest that clinicians should have special attention for the possible occurrence of fungal infections in critical ill COVID-19 patients.
