MLF: How to predict the potential overload of health systems by COVID-19

Session The COVID-19 pandemic: Clinical aspects

The COVID-19 pandemic can pose a problem for our health systems when hospitals are overloaded, especially when the capacities of lung ventilators and beds in ICUs reach their limit. In order to predict a possible overload, it is required to have a good estimate of incoming patients but also a suitable estimate for the lengths of the stay in the ICU. Here, we mainly focus on estimating the length of the stay by an example in a hospital where the durations in the ICU were observed for COVID-19, Influenza A and Influenza B patients.
