Leukaemia is a disease characterized by abnormal types and numbers of white blood cells that can be detected microscopically on the blood smear. Automating this step promises a more effective approach as opposed to the current manual white blood cell differential counting. By using image processing and artificial intelligence algorithms on digital microscopic images, we constructed a deep convolutional neural network, CELLnet, that overcomes the classification problem of leukocytes in a desirable accuracy and speed.
