CSF: The effects of material properties on the ability to cold form and machine small medical components

The presentation will discuss how the choice of commonly used materials like PtIr may limit the geometries that can be produced in small parts through various manufacturing techniques like cold forming, turning and milling. The topic will focus on the challenges of fabricating parts smaller than 1mm in diameter and how the materials used in interventional therapies influence the features and tolerances that can be made. It will also touch on how manufacturing method needs to be considered along with biocompatibility, radio-opacity, nobility, and strength requirements when selecting the materials to make a component from.
