Dr. Verena Haselmann is deputy director of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry of the University Hospital Mannheim and head of the NGS Core Facility of the Medical Faculty Mannheim, University of Heidelberg. After studying Medicine at the Universities of Göttingen, Hong Kong and Launceston, she finished her doctoral thesis about the nuclear function of TRAIL-receptors at the Department of Molecular Oncology at the Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, for which she received the annual award in 2015 for the best doctoral thesis in Medicine. She specialized in Laboratory Medicine at the University Hospital Mannheim with a focus on Molecular Genetics and Hematooncology and since 2020 she is member of the Molecular Tumor Board of the Mannheimer Cancer Centre (MCC). She is responsible for the Molecular Genetic External Quality assessment schemes offered by the Reference Institute for Bioanalytics (RfB) and represents the RfB at the specialist group D5 of the German chaimber of physicians (BÄK). Dr. Haselmann is chair of the Committee "Clinical Molecular Biology Curriculum" of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and the task force for "CNAPS/CTC in early detection of cancer" of the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM). Her scientif field of expertise is beside quality assurance the analysis of circulating tumor DNA with a focus on preanalytical and analytical issues and translational studies as well as on establishment of integrative diagnostics to improve the management of cancer patients.
